EcoSolar together with John Leen Plumbing installed the solar water heating system serving the Zealandia Visitors Centre at the Karori Wildlife Santuary. The hot water is preheated in the solar heated cylinder prior to entering the reheat cylinders, a 180 litre cylinder for the ablutions and a 500 litre cylinder for the cafe on the first floor. The solar system operates as a drainback system, these systems effectively manage frosts or freezing conditions as well as any risks associated with overheating. The system comprises seven EcoSolar 2.8ST collectors on the roof on the first floor, the drainback cylinder located hung from the wall at the rear of the building and the preheat cylinder and plantroom are located on Level 1. The system has full monitoring using the Energy Conscious Design Solar Monitor and an interactive display located adjacent to the entrance on the Gound Floor. See the Solar Monitor on line annimation and data logging to view the system operation and performance.
Karori Wildlife Sanctuary - In a forested valley just minutes from downtown Wellington, some of New Zealand’s rarest native animals are thriving and living free in a unique safe haven. Karori Sanctuary Trust is a not-for-profit community-led organisation with an extraordinary 500-year vision: to restore a corner of mainland New Zealand as closely as possible to the way it was ‘the day before humans arrived’. The establishment of the Trust in 1995 was a major breakthrough in the conservation and recovery of native wildlife on mainland New Zealand, reversing a decline that has lasted for at least 700 years. It was a radical idea that turned out to be a major breakthrough in the conservation and recovery of native wildlife on mainland New Zealand.
