PL Gas and Solar and EcoSolar were selected by The Waiariki Institute of Technology to install a solar water heating system to serve thier catering blocks. 10 x 2.95m2 EcoSolar collectors were installed heating a 1,000 litre domestic hot water cylinder. The system operates as a drainback system to prevent overheating during periods of no / low hot water demand i.e. during the Summer holiday periods. The solar preheated water is suppplied to multiple 300 litre hot water cylinders to reheat the water to the required temperature during periods of insufficient solar gain. A heat recovery optimisation system was also installed to minimise the heat loss from the secondary circulation system on the hot water supply. The solar water heating system and heat recovery systems are controlled by an EcoSolar UVR61 which is able to control these multiple systems and allow data logging.
